Painted Pin-Up Ads: Airbrushing of the 40s?

A friend recently shared a post on The Real Life Models Behind The Classic Pin-Up Images. While the models were stunning and the posters sizzling, I couldn’t help but notice that the painted pin-up counterparts (try saying that three time fast) were significantly thinner and bustier (at times even blonder!) than their real life muses.  We might bash the likes of Cosmo for imposing a perfection complex by magically wiping away Sarah Jessica Parker’s crow’s feet (and cheeks and chin and nose), but it appears as though the artists of the 40s and 50s weren’t any better. Although I do think their posters certainly were…
