New Pains of Being Pure at Heart Album!

For all of you who never gave the NY indie pop band The Pains of Being Pure of Heart a chance because of their emo name, I ask you to reconsider just this once.  They may specialize in cutesy choruses but they’ve certainly proven their ability to create simple and well-crafted songs.  The Pains’ new album is now available for streaming (FREE) but before we get into it, I’m going to provide some context by way of a song from their 2009 self-titled debut album.

The song is called Everything With You and performed live, it’s one of my favourite things on the planet.  The song’s video, shot on super 8 film, features two girls (including the band’s own keyboardist Peggy Wang) and evokes the same amount of ‘fuck yeah’ energy.  I mean, the girls sleep in the same bed, have pillow fights, share clothes, play with their food, walk arm in arm on the boardwalk and are hot.  Of course I’m going to love it.

Their second full-length album, Belong, will be released on March 29th.  It’s currently available for streaming on the band’s website here and features ten C86-inspired guitar pop tracks (thanks Simon for the C86 reference).  It’s reminiscent of their older stuff but with a fuller, more crisp sound.  So, if you’re looking for something innovative from this band, this isn’t it.  But, if you’re happy with a more produced version of their old sound, then by all means, take Belong for a spin.

Actually, don’t let me tell you what to do.  It’s never a good idea to let a bratty economist boss you around.

Thanks for the heads up on the song–it’s on repeat at my desk now! Completely in agreement about the video as well. Love it!
